The Wolf of the North.

The man behind the tracks

The guardian of the north.

The half-wolf guardian standing in a snowy Nordic landscape

They call him Varg. In the villages of the Scandinavian north, no one agrees on when he first appeared. Some say he was born to a woodsman; others say the winter itself made him. He has a man’s hands, a wolf’s ears, and strength enough to move a fallen pine.

When frightened reindeer scatter through farmyards and narrow roads, families know to call for Varg. He does not hunt the animals. He opens a way out for them, and another for the people caught in their path.

These fifty entries trace his journeys through 2004: across frozen lakes, summer fells, village kitchens, and the small moments after everyone is safely home.

Varg and his journal are fictional. The places are real; the events and characters in these stories are invented.
