The slate roof.

From the ridge I saw the Nygårds on their slate roof, three people and a dog above a reindeer pacing the yard. Rain had made the tiles too slick to cross to the chimney ladder.

I climbed the outside wall and brought the dog down first, because it would not stop barking. Then came the child and her parents. Nobody thanked me until the dog stopped shaking.
